

THE INTRODUCTION OF GOJU-RYU KARATE IN TURKEY
&
SENSEI FATIH INCE
Sensei Ince was born on 1960 in Turkey. With the support of his classmate Mr. Cengiz Tasdelen, he started Taekwon-Do in 1976. Sensei Ince obtained his black belt on the national Taekwon-Do referee Mr. Abit Kilic’s examination in 1979. On 1982, however, he switched to Karate-Do and became Shodan in 1986. After attaining many first place prizes from various tournaments throughout the country, he successfully completed the first 'master trainer' course in Ankara (SESAM) in 1987. He received the 1st rank Karate-do Trainer certificate from the President of Turkish Karate Federation Mr. Ibrahim Oztek and later on, he opened his first official Dojo GOJU-RYU KARATE-DO SPOR in Izmir, Turkey.
After participating and successfully completing many national and international courses and seminars in France, Sweden, Spain, England, Holland, Japan, Germany and Canada, he went on to publish numerous research articles in various newspapers and sports magazines such as Samurai, Karakusak and Siyahkusak. He also appeared on Turkish television Ege-TV; taking part in several discussion panels regarding the true meaning and understanding of the Far-East martial arts. In 1990, he stopped practicing his original style of Karate due to its non-recognition in World Karate Federation (WKF) and took the opportunity to go abroad to research and learn more about Goju Ryu Karate.
In 1991, he became the first Turkish member of International Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate Federation (I.O.G.K.F) Sensei Ince was officially invited by the master Morio Higaonna (9th Dan) to the European Goju Ryu Karate Trainers' Coaches and Chief Instructors course in France, Mulhouse Strasbourg. It was a privilege for him to be taught personally by Sensei Higaonna himself. He successfully completed the annual courses and seminars. In 1992, he became a Goju-Ryu Karate-Do instructor and the following year in Stockholm, Sweden he was appointed as a Chief Instructor of the Turkish Goju-Ryu Association, again, personally by Shihan Morio Higoanna. The 13th European Gasshuku (International Chief Instructors Seminar) took place in Spain in 1995 and Sensei Ince was then given the legitimate responsibility by Sensei Higaonna for introducing Goju-Ryu Karate to other Turkic Republics and Islamic countries. He then continued on attending International Gasshukus in England on 1997, Holland on 1998, and Canada on 2003. As the Turkish representative of I.O.G.K.F., from 1991 to 2000 he ran his own Karate Dojos T.O.G.A. (Turkish Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate Association) in Izmir, Turkey.
On 2000, Sensei Ince left Turkey with his family. He became a Canadian National Referee with the support of the International Referee Sensei Zvonko Celebija in 2003. In the same year he took a part in a Community Center as a Karate instructor. During this time, he managed to learn Kobudo from Kei Tsumura, 8th Dan Shihan whom is the Founder & Chief Instructor of Canada of the Shitoryu-Itosukai Karate and Kobudo Association.
Sensei Fatih opened his first Canadian Dojo (club) on 2003 in Toronto. At present, he is studying Kobudo and Jundokan-Goju Ryu and is running this own Dojo in Toronto, Canada.
Sensei Ince is currently residing in Toronto, Canada. He attends every national and international tournament as a Canadian National Referee. In addition, he holds WKF 5th Dan and TCKF’s 2nd Kd. Karate-Do instructorship. Fluent in English, Sensei Ince is married and has 3 children.

Joseph Ufuk Basaran
Joseph Ufuk Basaran was born in Turkey in 1974. Joseph met with Gojuryu Karate and Sensei Fatih Ince (4 Dan) in izmir 1993 and have begun to train in Okinawan Gojuryu Karate Do with Sensei Ince who was the I.O.G.K.F Goju-Ryu Karate-do chief instructor of Turkey at that time.
After a full year of training, sempai Basaran became an assistant instructor at the Turkish Goju-Ryu Association and trained new students in Goju-ryu Karate. Sempai Basaran was participated in his first karate-kumite tournament in the city of Izmir in 1994 and held 4th place in the province of Ege.
In 1999, sempai Basaran were flown to England and met with Shihan George Andrews, who is the I.O.G.K.F chief instructor of England ( 7 Dan) and assistant to Shihan Morio Higoanna ( 9 Dan). Sensei Andrews trained sempai Basaran in gojuryu kata and self defense techniques. In 2000, sempai Basaran were flown to Canada and met with sensei Jim Marinow who was the IOGKF chief instructor of Canada at that time and also met with sensei Tetsuji Nakamura ( 5 Dan), who is the I.O.G.K.F techniquel advisor to Canada.
In 2001, sempai Basaran joined the Karate Ontario as a good standing member as well as with the National Karate Federation of Canada. Sempai Basaran had participated in his first karate- kumite tournament in Toronto, Ontario and held 3rd place in the province of Ontario.
In 2004 December the 24th, sempai Basaran was granted to shodan ( 1 Dan black belt) by sensei Zvonko Celebija (7 Dan) and Sensei Fatih Ince (5 Dan), Global Karate Do Federation, located in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
